Urban Solutions Institute ‘USI’ has established a strategic partnership with Indonesian Military to empower the nation armed forces through its territorial defense to encourage the local communities and youth to strengthen environment resilience Urban Solutions Institute in collaboration with UNJANI ‘University of General Ahmad Yani’, and by the support of West Java Province and The Regional Military Command ‘Kodam 3 Siliwangi’ conducted a one day seminar in Bandung on March 24, 2009 to launch the initiative. General Djoko Santoso,Military Chief of Indonesia, in his opening remarks stated that one of the duties of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) is to empower the defense territory as well as its supporting forces in due time in accordance with the holistic defense system, particularly in Military Operations other than War as stipulated in the National Law No. 34 year 2004. In this context, the operation of environment reconstruction and rehabilitation is one of Military Operations other than War which is aimed at preserving environmental defense as part of national defense. The Seminar was attended by Respective Chief of Staffs of Army, Navy and Air Force; Regional Military Commander from Jakarta & Java, military officers and district commands, local governments, communities, students, academics and NGOs’
